My name is Basil and my pronouns are they/them. I do enjoy film, though I have never engaged with it in an academic context. I want to learn the more technical aspects of film and learn to analyze it better. I took a classical history class my freshman year of high school, and I thought it was really interesting, so I decided to test my memory of Roman history and take this course. Plus, movies are cool.

I love horror movies, particularly psychological horror and slashers. My recent favorite is Beau Is Afraid, and my all-time favorites are The Thing, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Hereditary. I also really enjoy Wes Anderson movies and most anything animated.

I dislike action movies, but superhero movies (kind of) get a pass, especially Spiderman, and I also don't like movie musicals.

  1. You'll soon encounter Maciste, the first strong man in movie history and the model for all kinds of action heroes like Superman. Horror might be in shorter supply in our toga movies, but I think you'll find that there is quite a bit of violence and gushing blood in some of them (so much so that "The Life of Brian" makes fun of this stereotypical toga movie plot feature).
